1 dead after reported stolen vehicle crashes into excavator in Bay County

A deadly crash is under investigation after a driver crashed into construction equipment Tuesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, shortly before 9:30 p.m., a sedan was traveling east on Titus Road within a closed construction area when it collided with an excavator.

Troopers said the vehicle then caught fire.

Construction has been underway in that area on Titus Road near the Highway 231 intersection for the past eight months.

Florida Department of Transportation crews are working to reconstruct and realign Titus Road and construct a new bridge.

Troopers said the vehicle involved was reported stolen and investigators are working to identify the driver.
