Miami police seek suspect in hit-and-run that left 26-year-old man dead

Miami police asked for the public’s help Thursday in identifying a driver in connection with a hit-and-run that they say left a 26-year-old man dead Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred at about 12:48 a.m. near Southwest Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street, police said. The victim was identified as E, according to investigators.

E was riding a scooter near Northwest Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street shortly after 12:45 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle, according to police. They say he was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.

Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a dark-colored 2020 to 2025 Toyota Corolla that was last seen traveling toward the Little Havana area.

Police said the car is expected to have extensive windshield damage and possible damage to the front passenger side.

For E’ family, the loss has been devastating.

“It was very devastating. It was very sad. He’s so young, and he has a bright future ahead of him,” said his cousin, Vladimir Jean.

Jean shared a photo of E and remembered him as an intelligent and respectful young man.

“He was a very, very intelligent, respectful individual,” Jean said.

Now, as investigators work to identify the driver, the family is pleading for that person to come forward.

“Turn yourself in. That way everyone can move forward. If you stay hiding, that pain is always going to be with us as a family,” Jean said.

It remains unclear where E was headed when he was struck.

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes a car matching the description, including one belonging to a neighbor or co-worker or one that appears at a body shop, to contact the Miami Police Department at 305-579-6111.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
