A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a pickup truck late Sunday night on Hodges Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at about 10:15 p.m. near Montebello Way, JSO said. A man in his late 20s was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Hodges Boulevard just south of Beach Boulevard when a silver Toyota Tacoma turned from Danforth Drive onto Hodges Boulevard and entered the motorcycle’s path, according to investigators.

The motorcycle hit the rear of the Tacoma, causing the truck to flip. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel, JSO said.

The death is Duval County’s 128th traffic fatality this year and the 17th involving a motorcycle, according to JSO.

Traffic was affected on Hodges Boulevard as detectives investigated the crash.
