Troopers arrested a young man early Saturday morning after he reportedly led them in a pursuit on I-275.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol arrest report, a trooper attempted to stop a black Corvette quickly traveling northbound on I-275 in Pinellas County around midnight.
The trooper lost sight of the vehicle as it approached M 34, and a second trooper in Hillsborough County left a crash scene to pursue the suspect.
The second trooper re-entered I-275 from downtown and parked the patrol vehicle on the shoulder of the highway with its lights off. A black Corvette then quickly drove by.
Arrest papers said the vehicle had no taillights on and made multiple lane changes around other vehicles at a very high speed.
The trooper then began following the suspect and attempted to overtake the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop. FHP said the Corvette continued northbound and flashed its headlights at other vehicles to get them to move out of its way.
As the two vehicles approached M 47, the trooper activated its emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect quickly fled while making multiple lane changes to avoid other vehicles.
As the pursuit reache M 59, troopers said the vehicle took the exit ramp at 130 mph towards State Road 56. The car then turned right at the intersection and continued westbound.
Troopers said the suspect attempted to change lanes and split between two other vehicles, causing the Corvette to crash into them. However, the driver continued fleeing.
The trooper then conducted a PIT maneuver, ending the pursuit.
The driver, identified as A, 19, was removed from the car and arrested for aggravated fleeing to elude and hit-and-run with property damage.
