Box truck driver who crashed into guardrail on I-75 arrested for DUI after fleeing on foot

A box truck driver who crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 75 in Marion County before his vehicle rolled over, was arrested for driving under the influence after he allegedly fled the scene of the crash by foot.

The crash occurred on I-75 southbound at around 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, near the County Road 484 overpass at mile marker 340.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, 29-year-old Calvin Huddleston, of Georgia, was traveling southbound in a box truck on the interstate when he lost control of the vehicle. Moments later, the box truck overturned onto the grassy median before colliding with a guardrail.

After the crash, Huddleston allegedly fled from the area on foot. He was later located and apprehended by law enforcement.

A trooper noted in the report that Huddleston’s commercial driver’s license was suspended at the time of the accident.

No further details were provided by FHP regarding the single-vehicle crash or Huddleston’s arrest.

Huddleston was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail on the following charges: driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, DUI with property damage, driving with a suspended or revoked commercial driver’s license, and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.

Jail records show that Huddleston is currently being held on a $5,500 bond. A court date has not been scheduled yet.

Earlier in the day on August 6, a semi-truck caused slowdowns on I-75 northbound after crashing into a guardrail near the exit to State Road 200.
