FHP, St. Johns County deputies led on chase that ends with vehicle crashing into house

FHP, St. Johns County deputies led on chase that ends with vehicle crashing into house

A person was arrested on Saturday morning after leading Florida Highway Patrol troopers and St. Johns County deputies on a pursuit that ended with the driver crashing into a house, FHP said.

Around 9:30 a.m., FHP said its troopers and SJC deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop of a stolen blue Hyundai Sonata on I-95 North near State Road 16.

“The vehicle immediately began to flee from law enforcement and drive extremely reckless,” FHP said. “As the vehicle began to flee, troopers engaged in pursuit.”

According to FHP, the driver crashed into multiple vehicles while fleeing from law enforcement.

FHP said the Sonata then exited I-95 and began to travel east on CR-210, approaching Beachwalk. There, troopers performed a PIT maneuver, which sent the vehicle toward an embankment.

The agency said the suspect continued driving over the embankment into a backyard of a residence, where they crashed into a house before continuing to flee on foot.

Shortly after the crash and a brief foot chase, the driver of the Sonata was arrested.
