A 19-year-old man was hospitalized after he was injured during a shooting in Orange County on Wednesday.
Fire rescue officials said the man was transported as a trauma alert to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said he is in critical condition but stable as of Wednesday night.
The incident was reported on the 5200 block of Silver Star Road in Orlando.
“I pulled up. I was like something definitely happened over here,” said OG, who was trying to get to his apartment Wednesday when he saw Sheriff’s Cruisers covering part of the shopping plaza next door.
“There were like right over there 14 cop cars. It looked like a SWAT force over there,” he said.
And once he got home, he asked his aunt what was happening.
“My aunt didn’t know what was going on. She just said I heard fireworks, maybe gunshots,” he said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the 19-year-old man was shot around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.
They said it didn’t happen in the shopping plaza where a number of their deputies were staged but on the Pine Hills trail behind it.
“My son called me shortly before I got out of work and let me know that I probably wouldn’t be able to take the bike trail home,” KC said. “Because they had it blocked off because somebody got shot.”
C uses the bike path, and so do her kids. She wasn’t shocked by the shooting. But that doesn’t mean she isn’t concerned.
“The area, like I said, it’s not really uncommon,” she said. “It’s sad, but… and I really wouldn’t want my kids walking through the area and having my son have to call me and tell me that you can’t come this way that’s kind of concerning.”
The sheriff’s office hasn’t said what led up to the shooting and said Wednesday they were in the early stages of the investigation. One young man on the bike path told WESH it was his friend who was shot.
“I don’t know what happened at all. That’s crazy,” MS said. “I hope he gets better.”
