Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Sweetshade Drive after a “suspicious” 911 call.
When the deputy arrived at the residence, JR opened the door. The deputy states that J was in a “disoriented state” and that he had an injury to the upper left part of his check/neck.
Another injury was found on the upper right side of his back. Both injuries were determined to be gunshot wounds.
The man told the deputy that he did not know he had been shot and was unaware about what occurred.
The deputy performed a security sweep of the residence and discovered P R lying on the bed in an upstairs bedroom with a .38 special revolver in her right hand. She had a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the front of her throat, according to the report.
The deputy asked her if she shot the victim and herself to which she replied yes.
As medical personnel were treating her, the deputy heard her say “Don’t save me.”
P reportedly made the 911 call, reporting that her husband was bleeding from his shoulder and that he was conscious. She said that she did not know how the injury occurred.
The 911 dispatcher noted that P seemed calm and seemingly uninjured. Her answers were short and vague and after several minutes, the call dropped.
Detectives say P‘s phone contained a screenshot of an internet search for “what happens when you get shot in the throat and damaged trachea.” She also reportedly searched “Penetrating traumatic neck injury.”
Surveillance video from a nearby residence captured the distinct sound of two gunshots approximately 40 minutes apart.
P R is being charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Based on her injuries, she is expected to have a degree of permanent paralysis and is currently in critical care at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She will require ongoing extensive care and she will be transferring to a rehabilitation facility in Atlanta.
