A 55-year-old succumbed to burns that covered nearly her entire body, and officials say accelerant may be to blame.
Around midnight on Saturday, Port St. Lucie Police (PSLPD) officers responded to a call regarding a burn victim at SE Rainier Street.
Investigators say the victim was using an accelerant while lighting a backyard bonfire and severely burned herself.
According to PSLPD, family members extinguished the fire with a water hose while police were en route.
But it was too late, officers say KPA Torres had sustained burns to 80 to 90 percent of her body.
T was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she was evaluated, revealing her burns encompassed 97 percent of her body.
Hours later, T succumbed to her injuries.
Her husband was also burned on his hands and was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening burns.
