Fort Myers woman killed, 6 injured after head-on crash on Winkler Road

A 46-year-old Fort Myers woman is dead, and six others were injured after a two-vehicle crash on Winkler Road late Monday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 10 p.m. when the woman, driving a sedan south on Winkler Road near Averly Street, attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing the double yellow centerline.

Troopers said as she moved into the northbound lane, her sedan collided head-on with an SUV carrying six passengers, including a 37-year-old man and woman, as well as children aged 3, 10, 14 and 17, all from Fort Myers.

The crash reportedly caused the sedan to roll over and come to rest in a ditch. Troopers said the 46-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV’s driver and all five passengers sustained injuries, with three suffering serious harm and the others facing minor injuries.

Troopers said this is an investigation. Gulf Coast News has reached out for updates on the conditions of those injured.
