The Fort Myers Fire Department responded to a fire at a home along Cortez Boulevard on Tuesday night.
According to Fort Myers Fire Chief Tracy McMillion, a passerby reported seeing smoke coming from the unoccupied home.
Fire officials said the home has an active building permit and was undergoing an extensive remodel. Crews were able to locate the fire in the kitchen area and quickly contain it.
Chief McMillion said there was “significant interior smoke and fire” and no one was injured.
FMFD’s fire marshal and building official were on the scene as well.
