A Florida Highway Patrol pursuit led to a deadly crash on Wednesday night in Broward County.
According to FHP, the incident began as a pursuit on Florida’s Turnpike.
A vehicle fled from a trooper who observed several moving violations. Authorities said the vehicle — a Ford Focus — eventually got on I-595 before exiting at University Drive.
At one point, the vehicle was traveling the wrong direction and went through several red lights, authorities said.
The vehicle sideswiped at least two other cars, troopers said, and then T-boned a third car in the area of University Drive, south of Marcano Boulevard, just after 7 p.m.
Troopers said the suspect behind the wheel of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash.
Several people who were injured in the crash were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, authorities said.
The driver who died has not been publicly identified.
