Father allegedly grabs son by neck on the way home from hospital

A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly grabbing his son by the neck on the way home from the hospital.

An officer responded to a battery call for service at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 11:35 p.m. Aug. 13, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Upon arrival, the officer observed 52-year-old JGP and his son, the victim, standing in the front yard of the residence in each other’s faces.

Once separated, the victim advised they were in a verbal argument. He picked up P from the hospital earlier in the evening, and they started arguing on the way home. When they got back to the residence, P grabbed him by the arm, which started a physical altercation, the report said.

There were red marks on the victim’s neck, which he advised were from P grabbing his neck. He did not lose the ability to breathe, though. The officer observed scratches on both sides of his neck that were consistent with his statement of P grabbing him by the neck, the report said.

The officer then met with two independent witnesses. They stated that they came out of the residence to see P and the victim sitting inside the car. Penny had his arm around the victim’s neck, the report said.

The officer next spoke to P who was slurring his speech and swaying while standing. He advised that he had been drinking and was currently drunk. After being read his rights, he corroborated that he and the victim were in a verbal argument on the way home from the hospital, the report said.

P explained he was in the hospital after falling on the ground and hitting his head. When asked if anything physical happened between him and the victim, he said “yes.” He also admitted to grabbing the victim and said he “probably” grabbed him by the neck, the report said.

P was subsequently arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
