Clermont woman killed in head-on crash in Lake County

A 56-year-old Clermont woman was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle, head-on crash in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the fatal two-vehicle wreck happened around 5:35 p.m. at Schofield Road and Five Mile Road in Clermont.

According to an FHP crash report, the woman was driving a Mercedes GLA Class west on Schofield Road, west of Five Mile Road.

At the same time, a Ford F-150, driven by a 43-year-old Clermont man, was heading east on Schofield Road, west of Five Mile Road.

Troopers said that for unknown reasons, the Mercedes veered into the eastbound lane and the vehicles collided head-on.

According to the FHP, the woman was taken to ORMC, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the F-150 was taken to ORMC in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
