A two-car accident in Washington County resulted in the tragic death of three children.
According to a news release, a fatal crash occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on State Road 79 north of County Road 280 involving a Mazda SUV with three adults and four children.
The driver of the SUV, a 24-year-old Georgia woman, was traveling north in the outside northbound travel lane at a low rate of speed.
A 23-year-old Alabama man was reportedly driving a Ford pickup truck traveling north in the outside northbound lane, rapidly approaching the SUV.
The front of the pickup truck collided with the rear of the SUV, resulting in both vehicles traveling off the shoulder of the roadway.
Troopers said the pickup truck came to a stop facing east, and the SUV collided with a tree before overturning onto its left side.
The driver of the SUV was critically injured, and three of the children in the SUV were confirmed deceased by FHP; two were confirmed deceased on the scene, and one was confirmed deceased at Bay Medical.
The 23-year-old driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the traffic crash is still under investigation.
