30-year-old Florida man killed in crash on SR-44 in Wildwood

Fatal wreck investigated near CR-475

WILDWOOD, Fla. – A 30-year-old Inverness man was killed early Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal wreck happened around 4:55 a.m. on State Road 44 near County Road 475 in Wildwood.

The FHP said the man was driving a Kia Forte west on S.R. 44 and failed to negotiate a curve, causing the car to leave the road before colliding with a utility pole and a barbed wire fence.

An FHP crash report said the unrestrained driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

S.R. 44 was closed in the area before one lane was reopened about three hours later, troopers said.
