A man was allegedly shot and killed by a relative in Hobe Sound on Thursday.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the victim, identified as ES, was shot and killed following an altercation. The incident took place near Southeast Begonia Way in the Banner Lake Community before 6 p.m.
“We know that there was some type of confrontation that went back and forth, but we’re again we’re trying to piece together exactly what took place because details matter,” Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said.
Sheriff Budensiek said the victim’s cousin stayed at the scene. The weapon was also discovered nearby. While the cousin has not been charged at this time, authorities are questioning him at the sheriff’s office.
S was well-known in his community and by law enforcement for his local barbecue stand, according to the sheriff.
“A lifetime Hobe Sound resident he recently has been selling barbeque at the corner of Pettway Street and A1A, so a lot of people in Hobe Sound know Ernie. He’s been around for a very long time,” the sheriff added.
CBS12 News spoke with the victim’s sister, GH. She remembered her brother as married father of four.
“He [E] has a history and that’s fine with me. We all have a past, but he was getting himself together, he was working hard, doing his barbeque stand,” said G H, the victim’s sister.
Detectives in Martin County have been interviewing witnesses and reviewing outdoor security footage in connection with this case.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
