Officials responded to a water vessel incident on April 19 after a body was recovered from the Estero River.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County EMS and Fire Rescue all responded to the scene.
According to the FWC, a boating vessel with two people onboard was traveling in the river when one of the people fell off.
The person was found unresponsive in the water and recovered by a good Samaritan, who then transported them to shore.
Once the unresponsive person was taken to the hospital by Lee County EMS, who was pronounced dead due to the incident.
This is an active investigation.
The FWC will be the lead agency for the ongoing investigation.
