POLK COUNTY, N.C. —
One man is dead after being shot by a Polk County deputy late Friday night.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the suspect, 37-year-old John Snyder, advanced on deputies and ignored commands to drop a knife he was wielding.
.Judd said Snyder had outstanding warrants for felony burglary and ran when deputies attempted to apprehend him outside of a McDonald’s on US-92.
Snyder reportedly told his mother on Thursday that it would be his last time seeing her, Judd said.
The sheriff noted that the incident marked the third Friday in a row that an officer-involved shooting occurred.
“Three Fridays in a row, where people have tried to kill my deputies,” he said.
The deputy first attempted to tase Snyder, but he continued to flee before pulling out a knife.
Judd said the deputy shot Snyder several times and attempted life-saving measures that were ultimately unsuccessful.
No deputies were injured in the incident.
Judd said an investigation into the shooting is underway by an officer-involved shooting task force made up of several law enforcement agencies
