ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating after four people were struck, one of them fatally, overnight on state Road 408 in Orange County.
The FHP said the crash happened at Mile Marker 21 in the eastbound lanes of state Road 408 around 3:19 a.m.
Troopers said two SUVs were stopped in the center lane due to a previous crash, and the drivers and passengers of the SUVs had exited their vehicles and were standing between them.
The driver of a 2015 Ford Edge failed to observe the collision ahead and hit the rear of one of the SUVs, which caused it to strike those involved in the prior crash.
All four pedestrians were transported to area hospitals, with two going to Orlando Regional Medical Center, one to AdventHealth East Orlando Hospital and a 9-month-old girl transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of one of the SUVs, a 35-year-old Orlando man, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver and passenger of the other SUV sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the Ford Edge was not injured in the crash.
The exit to Alafaya Trail and all eastbound travel lanes reopened before 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
