FHP investigates double-fatal crash near Taylor Creek Road
CHRISTMAS, Fla. – A 44-year-old Christmas man who was critically injured last week when the moped he was operating in Orange County was struck from behind has died, the Florida Highway Patrol said on Tuesday.
A 42-year-old Orlando woman who was a passenger on the moped died last Wednesday when they were struck from behind by a car driven by a 19-year-old woman, according to troopers.
The fatal crash happened around 11 p.m. on State Road 50 (Colonial Drive) near Taylor Creek Road in Christmas.
The FHP said the 19-year-old was driving a 2023 Kia K5 west on S.R. 50 and failed to slow down, colliding with the back of the moped, which was traveling in front of her.
The man, who was driving the moped, and his passenger were thrown into the median of the road after impact, an FHP crash report stated.
Troopers said the Kia ran off the road after the collision and crashed into some shrubs and trees.
The moped passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the FHP.
The moped driver was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries but later died, the FHP said.
The 19-year-old driver of the Kia was taken to AdventHealth Waterford Lakes ER with minor injuries, according to the crash report.
No other details have been released.
