Man armed with machete injures 2 during attempted robbery in Miami

Sedano’s Supermarket manager and security guard injured while confronting robber in Little Havana, police say

MIAMI – Police officers were investigating how a 38-year-old attacker armed with a machete injured two victims on Wednesday in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

According to the Miami Police Department, Yuris Jimenez-Linares attacked the victims while he attempted to steal a chain from a loading area behind Sedano’s Supermarket in the Riverside area.

According to a police report, Jimenez-Linares punched a man who was working as the supermarket’s manager and stabbed a man in the shoulder who was working as a security guard.

Two witnesses attempted to defend the victims from Jimenez-Linares at about 10:40 a.m., at the supermarket near Northwest 12 Avenue and West Flagler Street, police said.

After the manager was unconscious and the security guard was bleeding, a group of about five good Samaritans intervened and detained Jimenez-Linares in the back of a nearby Truist Bank, at 100 NW 12 Ave., police said.

Police officers arrested the suspect and Miami Fire Rescue personnel took the security guard to Jackson Memorial Hospital and treated the manager at the scene, according to police.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
