Motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV at Orange County intersection, troopers say

Fatal wreck occurred on Orange Avenue at Sand Lake Road

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 46-year-old Orlando man who was riding a motorcycle in Orange County on Thursday died after crashing into an SUV that had turned into his path, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. at Orange Avenue and Sand Lake Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the motorcyclist was traveling north on Orange Avenue as a 2008 Toyota Rav-4 driven by a 32-year-old Orlando man traveled south, with both vehicles approaching Sand Lake Road.

The man driving the SUV attempted to make a left turn in the direct path of the motorcycle, which witnesses advised was traveling above the posted speed limit, the report states.

The front of the motorcycle struck the right rear side of the SUV, causing the motorcyclist to fall from the bike, according to the FHP. Troopers said that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.

The man driving the SUV was not injured and remained at the scene, the report states.

FHP is still investigating.
