1 dead after 4-car crash closed I-75 for 5 hours

A fatal crash on Interstate 75 south of Fowler Avenue closed the northbound lanes for over five hours on Saturday.

At around 11:25 a.m., a Hyundai was traveling in the southbound lanes when it entered the lane of a Mazda, then crashed into a guardrail.

The Hyundai flipped over the guardrail into the northbound lanes, colliding with a Kia that was traveling north.

Debris from the collision between the Hyundai and the Kia then hit a fourth vehicle, a Honda.

The Hyundai came to a final stop on top of the outside guardrail in the northbound lanes. The driver, a 56-year-old woman from Gainesville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the Mazda and Honda were uninjured, and the driver of the Kia suffered minor injuries.

The crash caused significant traffic delays, closing all northbound lanes for hours and rerouting traffic at I-4.
