Two people have died after a house went up in flames in Miami Gardens early Wednesday, police said.
Video shows the inferno that broke out at around 3:35 a.m. at the home near Northwest 19th Avenue and 185th Terrace, along with several first responders in the neighborhood a few blocks from Hard Rock Stadium.
“One resident reported waking to a loud explosion, discovering the fire, and calling 911 after failing to locate his aunt and uncle,” Miami Gardens Police said in a statement.
When first responders arrived, they found the home “full engulfed in flames,” and two people dead inside the house.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. The identities of the people who died haven’t been released.
Thick smoke lingered in the air as firefighters worked the scene throughout the morning. Footage showed the home virtually gutted by the fire. Some walls still stood, but nearly everything inside appeared burned to ash.
A neighbor said they woke up to a loud noise.
“I just heard a booming sound, like it was a bomb that went off real loud, and then it was a small sound,” VW said, clearly distressed. “So I ran and looked out the sliding glass door and I see the fire. Oh my God!”
She started hosing down her own yard, afraid that the fire would spread.
“When I seen the fire, I just came back here and started spraying because I was concerned,” Wilcox said. “I just moved in my house and I didn’t need this fire to come over here. So I did the thing I could think of doing, was take the water hose and start spraying.”
A neighboring family said their dog, Goddess, was scared by the loud noise and took off. They are asking for help finding her, and said she has a pink collar.
This is a developing story.
