Two Walgreens employees were shot and injured at a Walgreens in Port Orange on Wednesday afternoon and the suspected shooter is dead, police said.
Police said they were dispatched to the Walgreens located at 1625 Taylor Road around 5:26 p.m. in reference to an active shooter.
Port Orange police, along with officers from surrounding agencies, responded and located the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the parking lot.
According to a news release, the two employees were shot inside the store and were taken to the hospital, but their condition was not released.
Police said one customer was in the store during the shooting, but they were not harmed.
“Law enforcement officials are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” the release read in part.
The identities of the two employees and the suspect were not released.
In the meantime, Walgreens provided News 6 with the following statement:
“Our hearts are with our two Walgreens team members who were victims of a senseless act of violence.
We are fully cooperating with local authorities in their investigation and remain committed to supporting our team through counseling and other available services.
