20-year-old charged with DUI manslaughter after fatal head-on crash in Escambia County

A 20-year-old Orange Beach man is charged with DUI manslaughter following a fatal wreck in Escambia County early Friday morning.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Lillian Highway near Halcyon Circle.

WW was booked into Escambia County Jail around 6:50 a.m.

The crash killed a 55-year-old Lillian man.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, W was driving west on Lillian Highway in an SUV, approaching Halcyon Circle. The Lillian man was traveling east on Lillian Highway, approaching Halcyon Circle.

FHP says W “failed to operate within the designated lane of travel and began going the wrong way into oncoming traffic. As a result, a head-on collision occurred.”

The Lillian man was pronounced dead on scene, while W was flown to the hospital before being taken to jail.

The roadway was closed for several hours as crews worked the scene.

No further details were released.
