2 killed in fiery crash on Don Shula Expressway

Two people were killed overnight Saturday in a fiery crash on the Don Shula Expressway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened at around 2:30 a.m. near Southwest 122nd Avenue in the Kendall area.

Troopers said the driver of a Ford “lost control and collided into a utility pole, then a tree.”

“The collision caused the vehicle to catch fire, becoming fully engulfed,” FHP Lt. Alex Camacho said in an email Saturday afternoon.

The two people inside, a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released their names.

The crash led to a three-hour road closure.
