Aldi workers sprang into action when a fire broke out at a Crystal River store on Wednesday afternoon.
The Crystal River Fire Department said it was called to the Aldi at 1651 Southeast Highway 19 just before 3 p.m. for a reported structure fire.
CRFD crews said they arrived at the store within three minutes and saw that Aldi workers were evacuating it.
Firefighters found smoke inside a walk-in cooler from an extinguished fire. They said quick-thinking workers used a fire extinguisher to knock down the fire as 911 was being called.
The blaze was caused by a vendor’s tool being used in the cooler, which caused a box to catch fire, CRFD said.
Firefighters used high-powered fans to draw the smoke and extinguishing agent out of the coolers.
CFRD shared the importance of fire extinguishers. “Make sure you have one, and that it’s not expired,” firefighters said.
