‘Angry’ girlfriend allegedly pushes boyfriend to the ground at café

A Eustis woman was arrested for battery after allegedly pushing her boyfriend to the ground at a café in Leesburg.

Officers responded to Spill the Beans Coffee Shop, located at 406 Pine St., for a disturbance involving 53-year-old Catherine Erlene Sceal and her boyfriend of five years around 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Upon arrival, they saw the couple fighting over a chair, making the situation a potential battery. The complainant advised that Sceal had not been allowed in the business because she was causing a disturbance. She was mad and threw a cup with ice on the ground, the report said.

Sceal told law enforcement that she had been struck with an iron chair on her arm and hand by her boyfriend. She tried to prevent him from hitting her a third time, but the reason he fell on the floor was from him drinking alcohol. They argued because he did not want to say anything to the man in the café, the report said.

After speaking with her, the officers moved on to her boyfriend. He stated he was sitting down when Sceal went into the coffee shop and came back mad at him. He admitted that she pushed him one time, but he was hesitant to say more since he did not want to press charges. He also added that they usually had arguments from time to time, the report said.

He went on to say there was a history of Sceal battering him. They had been in a romantic relationship, staying with each other and sleeping in the same bed several days a week for five years, making the incident domestic in nature, the report said.

The complainant subsequently explained that Sceal took money from her transaction and threw a cup on the floor. She and her boyfriend fought as officers arrived, during which she pushed him to the ground. They both had been fighting for several months, and Sceal lied when she said she had been hit by her boyfriend, the report said.

Sceal was ultimately arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
