Arrest made in case of Key Biscayne cyclist randomly struck by passing jogger

Police have made an arrest in the case of a cyclist who was attacked by a runner while both were exercising in Key Biscayne.

Authorities announced the arrest of 54-year-old Andrew Cobb on Monday.

Investigators say Maria Galleguillo, a triathlete, was riding her bike in the bicycle lane on the morning of July 7 when she saw Cobb running toward her on the same path.

As she was trying to pass him, detectives said Cobb smashed her in the face with a closed fist that was holding a water bottle.

The strike caused Galleguillo, 56, to sustain serious injuries.

According to Miami-Dade police, another cyclist witnessed the incident and called police.

Police said the cyclist asked Cobb to remain at the scene and wait for police, but Cobb fled.
