Arrest made in fatal Saturday night shooting at Westside Burger King

Arrest made in fatal Saturday night shooting at Westside Burger King

An arrest was made in the Saturday night shooting that left one man dead and another person injured at a Westside Burger King.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced on Sunday night that 28-year-old DB was arrested in connection to the shooting that happened at a Burger King restaurant on Blanding Boulevard near Collins Road around 8:30 p.m.

It’s unclear what led to the shooting that killed 18-year-old MJ and sent another man to the hospital. Police said he is expected to recover.

“We offer our condolences to Jackson’s loved ones and wish a speedy recovery for the other victim in this act of violence,” JSO said on social media.

J’s mom described him on social media as a “good soul.”

B was arrested Sunday morning, just one day after the shooting.

“Speediness is important, but I will also couch that with the idea behind making an arrest isn’t to make an arrest, it’s to get a conviction,” Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney said. “It’s to get a successful prosecution. Until either a plea comes through or a jury says guilty, the homicide investigator’s job isn’t done.”

The investigation is ongoing.
