Leesburg police have arrested two men in the shooting death of an 87-year-old at a gas station last month.
On oct. 6, police were notified that Clarence Ervin of Leesburg had died from his injuries sustained on Sept. 28. Police said Ervin was sitting in a car at the Citgo along West Main Street when he was shot by someone arguing with him.
Officers determined three suspects had approached the vehicle — two on the passenger’s side and one on the driver’s side — before the shooting occurred. A confrontation began and the suspect on the driver’s side then shot the man before all three suspects ran away, police said.
On Monday, Leesburg police announced the arrests of Kenneth D. Bailey, 22, and Craig A. Stevenson, 22, both of Leesburg. Police say they were two of the three suspects seen in surveillance videos released following the shooting: One capturing the scene and another showing the suspects approaching the area.
Police said the third person involved has also been identified, and detectives are currently working with the state attorney’s office to obtain an arrest warrant for that suspect.
Bailey and Stevenson are charged with capital murder and aggravated battery (firearm) on a person over 65.
