Shots were fired on Wednesday when a man pulled a handgun on Palm Beach County deputies in Lake Worth Beach, prompting a tactical response that left the suspect wounded.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) said a tactical operation turned violent Wednesday afternoon when deputies encountered 27-year-old MRG, a person of interest in an attempted murder case, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting.
The sheriff’s office said the incident occurred around 12:28 p.m. on South J Street, off 7th Avenue. Tactical agents were conducting an investigation when they approached a man tied to an ongoing attempted murder case. As agents attempted to make contact, the man reportedly produced a handgun, prompting deputies to discharge their agency-issued firearms.
The man sustained a graze wound to the hip and was treated on scene before being transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the news release.
Daniel Natirboff, who lives in the area of the investigation, heard it all from inside his home. ” I just heard like bah, bah, bah a bunch of shots and my sister had said there was a shooting and she thought it was on the corner at first because there was all these cops there already and then I walked around down here and they already started to tape it off, It was pretty intense,” Natirboff said.
PBSO said detectives from its Violent Crimes Division have taken over the investigation. No deputies were reported injured.
G was booked on counts of attempted first-degree murder from a shooting he was involved in on August 13, and aggravated assault with a firearm on a Law Enforcement officer.
Authorities say more information will be released as the investigation progresses.
