ATV rider dies in crash with pickup truck in Highlands County

A 26-year-old Lake Placid man riding an ATV died in a crash near Highlands Boulevard and Cumberland Street.

The crash happened around 1:04 a.m. Monday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was traveling south on the southbound lane of Highlands Boulevard, approaching the intersection of Cumberland Street.

A pickup truck was traveling in the opposite direction of the ATV. FHP troopers said the ATV crossed the center line and entered the pickup truck’s path.

The two vehicles collided head-on.

The Lake Placid man was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the report, the two occupants in the pickup truck were not injured in the crash.

FHP said the crash is under investigation.
