Clay County Sheriff’s deputies confirmed a suspect was killed in a deputy-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon.
Sheriff’s deputies identified M, 35, as the man killed in a deputy-involved shooting near Keystone Heights.
Deputies say the man threatened to “blow his brains out” after being taken off medication he was getting from Clay Behavioral Health Center.
While conducting a wellness check, deputies found the suspect in the passenger seat of a vehicle pulled over on Gas Line Road near State Road 21.
The suspect pulled out a handgun and refused to put it down, leading to deputies shooting him.
“Life-saving measures by Clay County Fire Rescue failed to stabilize the condition of the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s our policy to have our deputy-involved shootings investigated independently [by] the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and State Attorney’s Office,” said Undersheriff Ron Lendvay, Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
No deputies were hurt.
