Belle Glade man dead after falling into path of unmarked sheriff's vehicle

An unmarked vehicle from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office struck a pedestrian early Friday morning in Belle Glade, resulting in the pedestrian’s death.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the pedestrian, identified as a 34-year-old man from Belle Glade, was walking across the southbound lanes of N Main Street.

FHP said that at the same time, the PBSO vehicle was traveling north on the inside lane of N Main Street as the man attempted to cross.

As the pedestrian reached the raised median, he lost his footing and fell into the path of the approaching vehicle, leading to the collision, per FHP.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said that they responded and reported finding the pedestrian lying in the roadway.

Officials said that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 6:30 a.m.

According to FHP the investigation is ongoing.
