Bicyclist dead after crash on Evans Ave in Fort Myers Saturday

A bicyclist was killed in a crash with a vehicle on Evans Avenue in Fort Myers Saturday, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.

Police blocked off the road from Lemon Street to Thompson Street. The road remained closed for at least another two hours as a medical examiner and police investigated.

Drivers in the area have expressed concerns about the road layouts in the area.

“Especially in this intersection here at where Fowler meets Martin Luther King, you have a railroad track, then you have a traffic light. You have people coming down one way. There’s a lot of confusion going on, and people aren’t paying attention, and they’re on their phones are trying to make a last-minute text,” Quinton Dieterly, a local driver, said.

It has not been confirmed whether or not the driver was distracted. The driver did stay at the scene.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.
