Bicyclist hurt in crash with Palm Bay Police Cruiser, officers say

A man was seriously injured in a crash with a Palm Bay Police vehicle Friday, the Palm Bay Police Department says.

Officers say the crash happened on Palm Bay Road near Arlington Lane around 9 p.m.

Police say the agency requested the Florida Highway Patrol investigate the crash.

Officers say preliminary information suggests the bicyclist was riding against traffic, and swerved into the way of the patrol vehicle.

Officers say witnesses corroborated those facts.

The officer was not injured, the department says. The department says its prayers are with the bicyclist to make a full recovery.

Officers say this is an on-going investigation, and more information will be released when available.
