The Panama City Beach Police Department responded to a traffic crash that resulted in the death of a bicyclist on Sunday evening.
According to a news release, a preliminary investigation indicated that a green Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling west on Thomas Drive. The vehicle was approaching the rear entrance to WoodSpring Suites, located at 9719 Thomas Drive.
Officials said a male bicyclist was exiting the parking lot of WoodSpring Suites and entered the westbound lane of Thomas Drive, where he was struck by the Outlander.
The driver of the Outlander reportedly attempted to avoid the collision by swerving into the eastbound lane, where the vehicle collided with a black Toyota Highlander.
Panama City Beach Fire Rescue and Bay County EMS arrived at the scene and provided treatment to the bicyclist.
The bicyclist was transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Bay in Panama City, where he was pronounced deceased, officials confirmed.
The driver and the passenger of the Outlander were transported to HCA Florida Breakfast Point Emergency Room for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.
The Panama City Beach Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash. At this time, officials said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.
