A 38-year-old man riding a bicycle was struck and killed after running a stop sign in DeLand, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened just before 7 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Old New York Avenue and Euclid Avenue.
According to an FHP report, a 2015 Ford F250 pickup truck was traveling west on Old New York Avenue before the driver made a right turn on Euclid Avenue, traveling north.
Troopers said the bicyclist, who was traveling south on Euclid Avenue approaching the intersection, ran a stop sign before swerving left into the path of the pickup truck.
The truck driver attempted to avoid the collision by swerving right, but the front of the truck struck the bicyclist, troopers said.
The truck driver, a 73-year-old man from DeLand, was not injured and remained on scene. The bicyclist, who was also from DeLand, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
