Video shows the moment deputies rush to help a man stabbed multiple times in his neck and body.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VSO) said a 27-year-old CC was arrested following a stabbing incident at a transient camp on Sunday evening.
Deputies said they responded to the gruesome scene at Findley Street and Old Mission Road, where a 33-year-old male victim was found with 11 stab or cut wounds to his neck and upper body.
A Volusia Sheriff’s Office sergeant was the first to arrive and applied towels to the victim’s neck wound, according to the news release. The victim was still conscious after being stabbed over 10 times.
“I need to get my head up or the blood’s gonna keep pouring. The blood is gonna keep pouring unless I keep my neck above my heart,” the victim can be heard shouting on body camera video.
Moments later, officers from the New Smyrna Beach Police Department arrived with a trauma kit, according to the news release. The victim was airlifted to the hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition, with expectations of a full recovery.
The suspect, identified as C, was found nearby and was restrained, according to VSO. A folding knife with blood on it was recovered from Cotton’s pocket.
C faces aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond.
