Body camera video captures the moment deputies rushed to save a man pinned inside a truck after a driver under the influence struck his vehicle at a high rate of speed.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said deputies responded to the scene on Waters Avenue at 2:43 a.m. on December 30, and found a man pinned inside his Dodge Ram truck, which had collided with a tree. Video shows the truck wedged into the tree.
The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with serious lower leg injuries but is in stable condition and expected to recover.
The investigation revealed that H C D, 33, was driving westbound on Waters Avenue when he rear-ended the victim’s truck at a high rate of speed, pushing it into the tree. HCSO said C D was arrested and charged with DUI with serious bodily injury.
“This crash is a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving,” said Sheriff C C. “Driving under the influence is a choice that puts lives at risk. We are thankful the victim is expected to recover, and we urge everyone to make responsible decisions to keep our roads safe.”
