A body was found Thursday afternoon after an SUV plunged into a canal off U.S. Highway 27 in Weston, prompting a response from first responders.

Authorities said 911 dispatchers received a call reporting a vehicle submerged in a canal near the 1400 block of U.S. Highway 27 in Weston just after 2 p.m.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Fire Rescue responded to the scene, where emergency crews said they located the SUV and recovered a body.

Sky 10 showed a yellow tarp covering a body at the scene shortly after the SUV was eventually pulled from the canal.

Authorities said detectives from BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Investigators have not yet released the victim’s identity or provided any further details about the vehicle or the circumstances leading up to the crash.
