Bradenton man tells deputies he accidentally shot his dad in the neck: MCSO

Bradenton man tells deputies he accidentally shot his dad in the neck: MCSO

A man is facing a manslaughter charge following what he claims was the “accidental” shooting of his 76-year-old father, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said it was just before noon on Tuesday, July 29, when they received a report of a shooting inside a home on Baypointe Terrace in Bradenton.

They arrived to find 35-year-old ID rendering aid to his elderly father, who had been shot once in the neck, according to the sheriff’s office.

Emergency medical personnel tried to help 76-year-old AD but, despite their efforts, said he could not be revived. AD was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m.

ID told investigators he was showing his father a handgun when it accidentally went off, according to the sheriff’s office.

After further investigation, detectives decided to charge ID with manslaughter by culpable negligence. He was booked into the Manatee County Jail.

The investigation remained ongoing Tuesday night, and no further information was immediately available.
