A woman was arrested for aggravated assault after biting a co-worker and striking him with a steel reinforcement bar on Tuesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Just before 9:30 a.m., troopers responded to mile marker 222 on northbound I-75 in Bradenton for an active assault inside a construction zone.

A 37-year-old woman, identified as FM, of Bradenton, had gotten into a verbal argument with a man. Both individuals worked with the construction company at the site.

The argument escalated to a physical encounter, in which M bit the victim’s cheek and bashed him in the head area using a steel rebar, FHP said. The blow to the head left the man with significant injuries.

According to troopers, the victim was treated by EMS on the scene but refused to be transported for further evaluation.

M was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was taken to the Manatee County Jail.
