Brooksville adult living facility resident shot bus after being told to clean his room: deputies

A 20-year-old resident of an adult living facility in Brooksville is being charged after shooting at a facility bus on Monday, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

HCSO said that officers responded to a call at about 4:50 p.m. at the Hillendale Care facility located at 27357 Frampton Avenue. Upon arrival, they located M F, 20, who was taken into custody.

A manager of the facility told deputies that F asked for a ride to the store and became angry when the driver told him that he was already transporting another patient. Staff then suggested F clean his room while they looked for alternate transportation.

Deputies said that, according to the facility manager, as the bus was leaving the facility, F came outside with a gun and fired it three times in the direction of the vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver was uninjured, and there appeared to be no damage to the bus.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives said they located the firearm stowed away in the ceiling of a common-area bathroom. Ammunition for it was discovered in F’s room.

“How did he get a gun inside the facility?” said R D, who lives near the facility. “They should be more responsible especially if they’re a facility, you shouldn’t have access to a gun.”

HCSO said they arrested F and booked him into the Hernando County Detention Center.

Investigators said F has a lengthy criminal history. They report an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon case in St. Lucie County and said in 2020 he pleaded no contest to felony burglary in Broward County.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in public, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
