SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A car fire ignited brush along northbound I-75 two miles north of Kings Highway, backing up traffic for several hours Tuesday.
The brush fire started shortly before 3:30 p.m. east of I-75 in North Port off Blue Leaf Drive.
Charlotte County Safety officials say crews responded to a fully engulfed vehicle fire on northbound I-75 near mile marker 171, just past Kings Highway. The fire spread to the shoulder, turning into a brush fire fueled by wind and dry brush, burning about 3-5 acres.
Authorities said no evacuations or injuries were ordered. By 6:15 p.m., traffic was flowing in all lanes.
Approximately 15 fire units responded, including Charlotte County Fire & EMS, North Port Fire Rescue, Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department, Public Safety – DeSoto County, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Air-2, Florida Forest Service – Myakka River District, North Port Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol.
