Drivers traveling through Broward County should expect traffic congestion and heavy law enforcement activity on Florida’s Turnpike South due to a Thursday crash.
According to Florida 511, the crash occurred just beyond exit 58 near Sunrise Boulevard. It’s unclear what caused the crash. At approximately 5:49 p.m., the Broward County Sheriff’s Office posted on X that all southbound lanes near Sunrise Boulevard are shut down due to a traffic investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies. BSO asks that motorists avoid the area.
Spokesperson Lt. Indiana Miranda told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that drivers are urged to take alternate routes by exiting Commercial Boulevard, “or avoiding the Turnpike entirely”. Traffic in the area is currently being rerouted to exit at Sunrise Boulevard. The turnpike can be re-entered south of Interstate 595.
