It was an eventful two-day stretch for Cape Coral firefighters this week as they responded to two separate fires that engulfed a golf cart and a kitchen.

The Cape Coral Fire Department said crews responded to the incidents over the past two days, and they were able to quickly extinguish the flames and minimize damage. No one was injured in either incident, according to CCFD.

The fire department shared the following golf cart safety tips:

  • Have your golf cart inspected and maintained regularly.
  • If your golf cart is electric, use only the charger approved by the manufacturer.
  • Avoid charging batteries near flammable materials or in areas that block exits.
  • Stop using and charging a battery if you notice unusual heat, swelling, leaking, odors, or strange noises.
  • Never leave a charging battery unattended for extended periods and follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions.

CCFD also shared the following tips on maintaining a safe kitchen environment:

  • Stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling, or broiling food. If you leave, turn off the stove.
  • Keep flammable items, including towels, paper products, and packaging, away from the stovetop.
  • If a small grease fire starts in a pan, turn off the heat if it is safe to do so and slide a lid over the pan. Leave it covered until completely cool. NEVER use water on a grease fire.
